A chapter is coming to its end at Dior as the French luxury label has just announced that Maria Grazia Chiuri will be stepping down from her position as Creative Director. The news comes just days after the Italian designer staged Dior’s Cruise 2026 show in her hometown, Rome, on May 27. After nearly a decade spent at the helm of the brand’s womenswear division, the 61-year-old took to social media to reveal her departure, expressing pride in what was accomplished throughout her tenure.

“After nine years, I am leaving @dior delighted to have been given this extraordinary opportunity. I would like to thank Monsieur Arnault for placing his trust in me and Delphine for her support. I am particularly grateful for the work accomplished by my teams and the ateliers,” she wrote. “Their talent and expertise allowed me to realize my vision of committed women’s fashion, in close dialogue with several generations of female artists. Together, we have written a remarkable and impactful chapter of which I am immensely proud,” she added.
Last month, the house welcomed British designer J.W. Anderson to lead Dior Homme. It’s likely that Anderson will also be spearheading womenswear following Grazia Chiuri’s departure.
The first woman to helm Dior’s creative direction, Grazia Chiuri has, since 2016, championed her own vision of femininity, redefining the house’s codes and turning her collections into bold statements on womanhood. As we look back on her era at Dior, the question now is: what’s next? Will she take a breather or dive headfirst into a new chapter? For now, her next move is anyone’s guess. And in a year where fashion seems to be rewriting its rules daily, anything feels possible.
