Marwan Pablo is adding a new title to his résumé: actor. The Egyptian rap star is set to make his big-screen debut, becoming the latest artist to cross over into film. Following in the footsteps of fellow rappers-turned-actors like Ziad Zaza—who recently appeared in Aisha Can’t Fly Away, which premiered at the at the Un Certain Regard section 2025 Cannes Film Festival—the Alexandria-born MC is joining a star-studded cast that includes Ahmed Malek, Salma Abu Deif, and Hanan Youssef. His role, for now, remains under wraps.
The upcoming film, titled Egy Best (after the popular and controversial streaming website), is directed by Ahmed Hosny and written by Marwan Abdelmoniem. While the plot and release date have yet to be announced, the name alone suggests it may delve into how platforms like EgyBest have transformed content consumption in Egypt—particularly among youth—by disrupting traditional distribution models and democratizing access to pop culture, albeit through unofficial means.
Egy Best will also reunite Salma Abu Deif and Ahmed Malek on screen for the first time since El Sheikh Jackson in 2017.
Meanwhile, he isn’t the only rapper to make the leap into film. As mentioned, Ziad Zaza has already made waves, and others like Marwan Moussa, Wegz, Flex, and Abyusif have all tested the waters. Still, none have yet made the kind of cinematic impact that matches their musical fame. Could Pablo be the first? Only time will tell. Until then, all eyes are on his next move.
