A staple activation since the launch of MDLBEAST XP— the yearly gathering for music insiders in the Arab World— Storm Shaker has grown into a must-watch showcase of creativity and skill for aspiring DJs across the region. Gearing up towards its fifth edition, slated to take place during the next iteration of XP, the annual competition will mark its return this December alongside a batch of tweaks to ensure the experience remains as fresh and exciting as possible.
Continuing its mission to spotlight the next generation of disc-spinners and music mixers, Storm Shaker 2025 is back this year with an expanded prize offering and a more prestigious panel of international judges. With the winner handed the opportunity to perform at Soundstorm— MDLBEAST’s flagship music festival— as well as set on a tour across five major festivals worldwide, competitors will need to win over every member of the jury.

This year, the panel is made up of Baloo, Chief Creative Officer at MDLBEAST; Nikhil Chinapa of Satellite Beachside, a leading event organization from Goa, India; Milica Cvijetić of SEA STAR FESTIVAL, MOGA Festival co-founder DAOX; and special guest judge Sama’ Abdulhadi, the Palestinian DJ known for her electrifying Boiler Room sets.
Applications are now open, with organizers inviting emerging DJs from across the region to submit a 30-minute SoundCloud set that showcases their specific sound. Once submissions close, the judging panel will select ten standout talents to move on to the semi-finals, where contestants will be asked to submit video sets.
The competition will then culminate live at XP Music Futures, where four finalists will perform in front of both the panel and a live audience before the top two go head-to-head for the Storm Shaker crown.
Judging will focus on both mixing skills— including technical ability, speed, rhythmic precision, equipment mastery, blends, scratches, beat juggling, and creative tricks— as well as musicality, covering track selection, style, flow, and overall compatibility.
All four finalists will receive travel, accommodation, stage time at XP Music Futures, and exclusive access to festival programming.
