Minimalism Isn’t Dead — Jil Sander Spring 2026 is Proof

As tradition has it each September, Milan turns into an ephemeral capital of high fashion, inviting brands, designers, and industry insiders to roam its streets in search of the season’s defining looks—those glimpses that will soon flood everyone’s feeds, and eventually, their wardrobes too. A stage where debuts are made, reputations tested, and the trends for the months ahead is often set, many come hoping to leave their mark, believing that a single show, a single look, can carve their name into the industry’s collective memory.

And this season, that distinction belonged to Jil Sander, as the label staged a much-anticipated return to the runway—its first in eight years—and marked creative director Simone Belloti’s debut show and collection since being appointed in March.  Staged in its headquarters at Piazza Castello, an entire floor was cleared and dressed for the comeback. Inside, guests were greeted by whitewashed walls and two neat rows of black benches, as if the focus had to be on the clothes rather than anything that could distract from them.

That sense of minimalism carried through the collection, but Belloti didn’t play it too safe. A pink turtleneck tucked into a sculpted ivory skirt, finished with green shoes, gave clinical lines a jolt of play. A cobalt dress sliced with sharp cut-outs and a brown leather coat cut like a uniform reminded everyone that simplicity can still sting.  Even the black and navy suits— neat, boxy, and almost severe— felt charged, as if waiting to break character. A metallic silver skirt caught the light, stubbornly wrinkled against the clean lines above it. Neon underlayers pushed beneath grey knits, an orange mesh burned through a black skirt. It was Jil Sander minimalism, yes — but minimalism lit with sudden sparks, as if Belloti wanted the calm surface to twitch.

For a house that once defined modern minimalism, the point was clear: even after eight years away, Jil Sander still wants to keep on redefining it.
